Girls Just Wanna Have Fun...

Yesterday I had been to Paramparik Karigar's Exhibition of Indian Arts, Crafts and Textiles. It was at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghrahalaya (formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum) at Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. It was an amazing exhibition. Since I was a newbie in this area I was accompanied by my friend Dolly, who has done Masters in Indian Textiles. In fact she was the one introducing us to Paramparik Karigar. The exhibits were beautiful. Different works from different parts of India were displayed together at same time.Some of the stalls that caught my eyes were...


Arts and Crafts
In the Arts and Craft Category there were different exhibits such as:-

• Miniature Paintings- These painting may seem like normal paintings but when seen by magnifying glass we see the intricate details of the painting. Even the smallest strokes on a branch are done with ample efforts and patience.
• Madhubani Paintings - These originate from Bihar. They use natural dyes and pigments with brushes,fingers and other materails. Geometric patterns form part of these paintings.
• Leather Puppets- These originated from Karnataka. These are different puppets tooled on goat leather and use natural colours. The lamp shades part of these exhibit were amazing!

Textiles

• Kantha Work- It is patch work of cloth with help of threads from the fabric itself. The threads used for the work are stitched in a straight line along the whole fabric. But there were works in which threads were woven in circles,squares and other shapes too. It might sound unappealing but the work is truly exquisite. Just a dupatta requires a lot of work.
• Ikkat Work- This originated from Orissa. They first dye the yarn and the weave it in the design required.
• Aplic Work- Originated from Rajastan, in this work there are to fabric joined together. The fabric placed above is cut out as per the design and then folded and hemmed to the fabric placed below.
• Batik Work- Here the design area is covered with hot wax which resists dyeing, then after the wax is hardened the cloth is dyed and left for drying. The wax is then removed by putting different wrapping paper on it and pressing hot iron to melt the wax.

After the exhibition I went on my own shopping quest to Colaba Causeway with actually no intention of shopping because I had decided to do make-up shopping after I get back at my usual beauty store. I ended up doing both.

There is no 'good' in a good-bye!

In this techno savvy world there is always a better replacement for the old. But don't you miss the old as the saying goes- Old is Gold? I still miss my 1st cell phone- Sony Ericsson W300i, it had just basic operations but still I miss it.

Like W300i introduced me to the world on Cell phones, Picnik introduced me to the world of Editing! So quick and easy. But today it is its last day. The reason I have this special dedicated blog post for this is because IT has been an integral part of my blog since the very beginning. Though there are many upgraded editing options this has been my favourite one.

So a very lovely Good-bye and special Thanks for being a part of this blog and for all the edits required. Will surely Miss you!!

The Bib Necklace

I started with this bib in February. It started as an idea which required loads of work and ended up as my stress buster in all the exams and tests when I craved for a much needed break -something to do for my hands other than writing and drawing. I was so sure I would be completing my bib in February itself as my post here suggests. But unfortunately I couldn't because of the exams.

At last it's complete! I wanted to share it with you all as soon as possible. It took a lot loads of work and many pokes to my fingers from the needle to complete it. I made it in Peter Pan Collar style so I can wear it that way too. Steps to make it are:-

• Take a newspaper and draw the basic shape in which you require the neck piece and cut the shape out. To have a neat shape on both the sides just fold the paper and draw one side of the design and cut it out. When you open the fold you will get the whole design pattern.
• Decide the colour combinations and design within the pattern. As per your this, choose your basic colour cloth. My bib has combination of Blue, Sliver and White so I took White as base.
• Put your newspaper pattern on the cloth and cut out the cloth in the pattern leaving 1 cm for hemming. Now Hem the whole pattern so that there won't be any threads sticking out.
• Now as per your design start filling the cloth pattern. I have completely hand embroidered the pattern but you can also stick beads, pipes and other accessories with Fabric Glue and let it dry. It will be very quick.
• To tie the bib necklace I stitched a thin ribbon by making one fold of it so it can sustain the weight of the work. You can use any other material as per your wish.
• Your Bib is ready!
