Did you know??- Make-up !!

Make-up has become part and parcel of  our life. It not only helps to beautify our natural self but also gives boost to our confidence.

So from where did this 'Make-up' word originated from? All thanks to chemist and cosmetician extraordinaire Max Factor the founder of Max Factor and Company. He started as a wig maker but with his knowledge of chemistry he replaced the earlier greasepaint used by actors with a cream-based greasepaint which didn't crack and continued to invent different products. He is know as the Father of Modern Make-up.

He was the first person to use 'Make- up' as a noun form and popularized it. He is not only the founder of our modern day make-up but also the genius behind naming it make-up.

Simple Outfit + Simple Shopping

I guess November posts are all 'Plus' posts. This outfit is something I wore on Diwali for like an hour so that I had something new to wear in the morning as per the tradition. I wore the same outfit next day with a shrug and different purse and shoes. It's a very simple outfit with my old favorite jeans as usual !!

On the second day I went for shopping at my favorite shopping center at Andheri, from where I usually buy casual clothes. Considering my backwardness in trying out different styles of pants, I shocked my self by getting two different kinds of pants. From the lessons I have learned from Elements of  Design post, I got myself t-shirts with horizontal stripes which will hopefully make me look less thin :P

Sabyasachi + Aishwarya = Elegance

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is known for his classy, elegant and well-embellished traditional garments. Each of his garments has a different story to tell. Though Sabyasachi's muse is Vidya Balan, his garments are also popularized by Rani Mukherjee. However, I find that they look most elegant on Aishwarya Rai. When Sabhyasachi and Aishwarya come together they create classical magic which becomes the epitome of elegance and taste. This is what I found out by going through the recent pictures on Sabyasachi's Facebook Page. The pictures below are taken from the same page.

I think this pair is amazing and creates subtle elegance whenever put together!!

Until next time!!

Elements of Design - I

Elements of Design is a series based on a subject I am learning in my curriculum. This series mainly focuses on the four elements of design namely: lines, shapes, colours and textures. These elements are
important in garment construction and they play a vital role in giving a garment its own characteristics. Through this series I wish to provide the small details which are mostly ignored while buying or styling a garment but which may enhance the look of an outfit.

Our first element of design which is also the most basic element is Line. Today we see how use of Line in different ways help in enhancing different aspects of garment. The different psychological effect and visual illusions that a Line can produce in a garment are :-

This simple details can be useful while selecting or designing a garment. It may help you to emphasis the assets of our body which we want to flaunt or hide all the problem areas and give a beautiful end result.
Hope this was helpful :)

Until next time....

Did you know??- Magazines

Fashion magazines have played an important part in promotion of the new fashion trends and looks. Women were and still are inspired to follow these trends by the visual illustrations and details provided by these magazines.

Did you know that the two magazines that began in the nineteenth century and are still published are :- Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. These two magazines have been inspiring women across the globe for more than a century now and will do so in the future too.

The first issue of Harper's Bazaar was published on November 2, 1867 in both New York and Paris.

Paper Beads

As I had promised in my last post, this time I am sharing one of my class projects i.e. making jewellery from paper beads.

To make the Paper Beads, you'll require magazine strips(width as specified in making the beads), a toothpick and glue. Below are the different widths specified for the strips from magazine papers to make different beads:-

The width is as given above and length will be the length of the magazine paper. Now after cutting cutting the stripes, take the wider end of a strip and put it on the toothpick. Start wrapping the strip on the tooth pick and make sure you do not keep any space between the wraps or else the beads would come out loose, that is, we need tight wraps. Now glue the end of the strip to complete the beads. Remove the bead from the toothpick by rotating the bead as well as the toothpick simultaneously in opposite directions.
Some beads used by me in the jewellery are as below:-

To make the jewellery you will need- paper beads, some embroidery beads or pipes, jewellery wire, necklace lock, earring hooks and finally, scissors.

The wire should be cut according to the length of the necklace you desire. Then put the beads in the wire to make some design. To lock the necklace, twist the wire on the necklace locks.
To make earrings, use White thread, double it and put the beads in it to make some design. Twist the threads to the earring hooks.
The result was as below:-

It is a tedious but fun to make. I hope my ma'am likes it and gives me good grades....Hope you guys like it too!! :)

White and Black

Hello friends, I know I have been MIA for a while (one month to be precise). The reason was that I have got admission in a fashion school and so I was busy with the shifting and adjusting. It is like starting a new life all over again. It's fun with different and creative assignments they give us...I'll soon share some with you all....

Today's post is an outfit post since I wanted to try whether I could make a formal skirt look casual. I used a very formal colour, i.e White to transform it into a casual outfit.

Goal of the outfit- To create a casual look with a formal colour

The Formal Look

I tried on the casual look with two different white tops of different styles. I think if this can be done in white then it can be done in any colour and style!!

 With White Sleeveless Top

With White Peasant Top and Black Belt

Drop in to suggest any more goal related outfits or DIY, I would love to try them out. Hope you all like this transformation from formal to casual.

Until next time,

1 Year Old Bloggy

Yay! Today my bloggy baby is one!! I am super happy....Before a year I was just an avid reader of blogs...The world of blogging always fascinated me. I remember reading my first blog which was Dulcecandy's Blog  (I still LOVE her and she is my favourite blogger). I got the link from her youtube channel and this was my entry in the blogging world, which I found got bigger and bigger day by day.

I started writing blog just for fun....I was happy with zero blog followers in my 1st month of blogging...I started to ask my friends to have a look at my blog....started asking fellow bloggers for suggestion...It was a completely new thing for me. I had put up most of my first month work on facebook and looking at the response of people on my work, I decided it was time to 'blog' all the things I have done till now. It was a platform to show what I can do and it also became a way to channelise my creativity and imagination in a good direaction.

My first blog post, dates 5th July 2011 - Make Over Bangles !! I was sooo  excited to start with my blog but I was nervous too because it was like virtually putting yourself in front of everyone and anyone. Nervousness left the house months ago....but I am always excited to write my posts, even the intensity hasn't changed.

I am looking forward to many such years of blogging!! It is such a great joy!! Thank you all my 40 followers for supporting me till this date!! Happy Birthday my dear Blog!! Love you!! :*

Hairpin Make-over

Hello lovelies! This make-over idea came after brainstorming for the VIBGYOR Challenge organised by InDIAN FASHION BLOGGERS. The theme of this challenge was to incorporate any five colours from the rainbow and come up with interesting and creative ideas. It can be an outfit, art, object, food item, etc.- anything you like, but it should include minimum of five colours.

So I came up this idea to transform a dull black hairpin by adding a dash of colour to it, making it a summer accessory.

Things required were:-

A black hairpin, scissors and colour threads

I started with winding colour thread between the gaps in the spikes. After the required amount of rounds I cut the thread and tied a knot in the back to secure it's place. I repeated the procedure 4 times with different colours and keeping a gap between the colours.

Below is the pin after the make-over

Tried it as soon as it was done!

Let me know what you think about this idea...

Until next time,

50

Hi lovely people....wondering why 50 is up there as a title? Well it's my 50th post on the blog *screams with joy*....Is it weird I celebrate such small and beautiful things? I hope not...*smiles*

So for my 50th post I decided to note down at least 25, if not 50 reasons (I thought 50 was too much) why I love fashion and its glamorous world. The world of fashion has its numbing factor, the factor that makes you wanna stop and look at it with awe. If given a chance it can make you or break you (depending on how important it is in your life). It is a grown-ups' fairytale world as I like to say.

So here I go stating in just 25 words what it means to me in a very random order i.e as it popped in my head :)

  1. Inspiration - It inspires you to become something much more then you are now.
  2. Variety - Fashion from my point of view can never be boring, there will be always something new or revamped. It's never monotonous!
  3. Flow - Every part of fashion has a flow to it- whether it is an outfit, editorial, fashion show or some other thing. It has FLOW....
  4. Glamorous - Fashion world is all Glam....You can't just turn your head away from the sparkle and bling it oozes!!
  5. Individuality - It helps in finding out what kind of person you are and how you are as an individual character. For this very reason sometimes you feel you can pull off a certain look very easily.
  6. Dream-like - Every girl has a secret wish, wish-list or want-list. It seems something dream-like. You want to transform yourself in a look or you dream about owning a pair of heels. It keeps your dreams alive.
  7. Confidence - Yes, dressing up fashionably can give you the boost of confidence that you require in your life.
  8. It makes you feel good and positive about yourself - With confidence positivity follows, don't you think?
  9. Designers - Would fashion exist without them? I don't think so. They give a boost to it and make it a glamorous thing.
  10. Fashion shows - With designers come fashion shows. Through them you can see how a designer differs in his/her style from the others. I love to see these shows.
  11. Brands - Brands are such cool parts of fashion! But they are not directly associated with it. Designers and fashion create brands.
  12. Colours - Oh! the very basic of everything!! Colour exploration is amazing via fashion. Discovering new colours and names is always amazing.
  13. Beauty - Isn't fashion just beautiful? It boosts our inner beauty and makes it shine and come out.
  14. Passion - 'Passion for Fashion' as I say it....If you have it, you can be easily a part of this world.
  15. Make-up - I love make-up!! I used to invent all types of crazy fashion centric make-up when I was a child. Yes, I was exposed to fashion then.
  16. Dress-up - I used to play dress-up when I was a child, draping an cloth in 100 different ways. I want that child in me back, so I can make drape gowns now!!
  17. Trends - Following trends is always so much fun! Its like an adult dress-up game.
  18. Hair-fun - You come across many types of hairstyles and hair accessories. I definitely love to play with my hair.
  19. Vintage - I personally love all things vintage. So, I love vintage fashion!!
  20. Outfit and Accessories - Outfits and accessories form the daily part of fashion for me. It's day-to-day fun in organising and coordinating them.
  21. Magazines and Blogs - The fact I love about both of them is that they have revealed the fashion world to ALL !! They have helped me explore my love for Fashion.
  22. DIY - With blogs came the concept of do-it-yourself, opening doors to Fashion on a very self-based and creative way.
  23. Shopping -  Shopping for fashionable clothes and clothes that suit me is my favourite hobby. I think it is the favourite hobby of all you lovelies too!!
  24. Creativity - Fashion enables us to explore the creativity in us, like how creatively can you combine two varied colours, accessorize an outfit, or do a DIY.
  25. Pure Love - Just pure love for Fashion from the very childhood. :)
I think that sums it all up, don't you think?

Do tell me why you love Fashion and what kind of part does it play in your life......
Until next time,

Love,

Smocking Skirt for a Brunch

It's been ages since I have done an outfit post...reason being- no photographers available in my life right now *sad face*.....So, when I finally decided to wear my lovely smocking skirt (post- here), for a brunch party at my friend's place, I decided I am going take pictures at any cost....Got home, back from the party, hunted my brother away from his computer (or else he is stuck with his books) and made him click my pictures...After the party, effects were clear on my face so cropped it for this post, isn't skirt the star of the show? *winks*. Also my bro has less patience- crazy low. He will be like, "Are we done?" all the time...so he just clicked two helpful pictures, the pose unfortunately being the same :(

Now some brunch gossips, we all graduated with DISTINCTION!! Yay!! We were celebrating our victory so to say. Met my girls after like a month or so....So did loads of catching up! We discussed who might be 1st in our college, what lays ahead for all of us, shared some hot gossips, etc. I had amazing time with them! :)
