Pampering the Make-up brushes

Hi guys. Today's post is about hygienic care for the make-up brushes, sponges and beauty blenders that we love so much. Whether you use make-up regularly or occasionally, deep cleansing of the brushes is necessary as it is not only good for the skin but also for the life span of the brushes.

The simplest homemade solution for deep cleansing has just two ingredients - nourishing oil and gentle soap in 1:2 proportion. For further cleansing you can add a bit of shampoo and conditioner. too.

Here, I have used gentle liquid hand-wash and olive oil. After mixing the concoction, dip your brushes in it. Take a dish or any thing with a bumpy design side up as shown in the picture and gently start rubbing the brush on the the dish in the same motion you generally use the brush e.g. a blush brush should be rubbed on in circular motion whereas a foundation brush moves in straight lines on both side. Now put the brush under running water making sure the stem of the brush is not in water (as that holds the glue for the bristles).

After running all brushes through water and removing excess water gently, keep them to dry near a window with bristles elevated out like in the above image.

For sponges and beauty blender, dip them whole in the concoction and then massage the make-up off them in running water. Be gentle while rubbing or massaging them as they can easily rip off due to aggressive motion. As the sponge and beauty blender take in water and increase in size, it is necessary be careful while all the water has been gently squeezed out of them before they are set for drying. Further you can wrap them in a towel and massage in similar way like before to remove excess moisture as shown below.

The brushes might still retain some water, so another method is to cover your palm with a towel and rub the brushes in similar motion as done on the dish. By doing this, any excess water is then on the towel and further helps the drying process.

It might take a whole night for all the tools to dry completely. After drying your brushes, sponges and beauty blender are thoroughly clean and ready for the next beauty session.

Remember to pamper your make-up brushes regularly and have a hygienic routine for make-up that is good for your skin.

Until next time,

First Home Decor DIY

Hi guys, I was really excited for this project as it was the first time I was going to sharing a DIY relating to home decor. These DIYs are so simple and require just glue to make them. Though simple they can instantly add character to your desk.

Wooden Bangle Pen-stand :
Remember those days when chunky wooden bangles were statement jewelry but now they are just another accessory stacked in your cupboard. This DIY is really an amazing way for their make-over and for putting them to good use.

First cut-out a cardboard base for your your pen-stand with the help of the widest wooden bangle of the lot.

Then just stack them as you want deciding a pattern. Once you decide the pattern stick the widest bangle to the base and stick the rest with fevicol one on the other.

You can keep the design as it is as fevicol dries transparent. If not, you can spray paint or paint on it as per your wish. I did a gold spray for my stand.

The end product is a beautiful pen-stand for your work desk. I stacked in my eye pencils and mascaras with a beautiful dead rose.

Jute rope Tea Coaster :
A very simple DIY as it just involves coiling the jute rope and sticking it as you go. It is such an earthy and natural add to the desk.

Hope you like these simple and easy DIYs and do let me know if you want to see any more home decor DIYs.

Until next time,

DIY necklaces week

The weekend has kicked off with first showers of the year and aren't we all glad for some break from the heat. Though the weekend seems promising, my week was a good DIY productive time. I did three basic designs of necklace which are on trend this season.

The Tassel Necklace
The first one I tried was this tassel necklace. I did the same process as in my post for DIY - Tassel Earrings but here I took more strands of threads and added star buttons then tied it to the string of pearls.
The Tassel Necklace

The Crooked Love Triangle Pendant
The second one is something that I was inspired by my metal accessories post . I twisted a metal wire into a design that had been on my mind for a very long time.

The Crooked Love Triangle Pendant

Basic Choker
The simplest of the lot. This I made just by taking a velvet lace and stitching press buttons at both ends. It was a perfect companion for my trial with my new smokey eye palette.

Keeping myself productive busy for a while. Do let me know if you like these simple necklaces in the comments below.

Wave-ward Bound

It is truly an amazing experience to take a few days off and enjoy a life of uselessness even for a few days. Ponder into your real life for a bit and then just sit back and relax. May be read a soothing book to keep you company while travelling through roads unknown or just take in the scenic beauty; it all becomes part of it.

While on my short vacation to the Konkan area of Maharashtra a week back, I experienced bliss on the very first day. Our first stop was near Karde beach in Dapoli. No good network on our phones was irritating to the digitally connected selves that we were but as we stayed there and started to enjoy the shore, we realised there was no need for the same. It was a much needed detachment to  appreciate the pristine beach in front of us.

Our hotel was opposite to the beach and so a walk on the beach at sunset was first thing we did. I still remember the wind blowing in my hair and the fine, soft, black sand comforting my feet. Coincidentally my outfit was something that complemented the charcoal-grey sand. The names of the cities on my dress seemed ironic with respect to the peaceful place.

What I wore:
Dress ; Ginger (Lifestyle)
Cover-up jacket : Ginger (Lifestyle)
Sandals : Bata
Neckpiece : Gifted

This one is going to be tucked in my memory for a very long period of time. Do share with me some of your amazing vacation experiences in the comments.

Until next time,

Current Mood

With the heat rising and spring vanishing so soon, I am already dreaming of a vacation to a cooler place. But for now this post is a major throwback to the styling assignment  at my college which was mentioned here.

The below look is my current mood that is perfect for this temperature. The basic white t-shirt is accentuated by that pretty bow and those pants are so comfortable.

This comfy t-shirt is definitely my summer go-to essential. Do let me know what is your summer favourite in the comments below.

Until next time,
