White Winter

Merry Christmas to all my readers! We all are experiencing that magical time of the year and I hope its going great. I specially wanted to write this short post on this very day because of the special magic it holds in itself.

On 10th December the true winter white couture magic took place. The exclusive haute couture show, Sala Bianca 945, by Valentino. This all white masterpiece was by Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri for Valentino. The classic collection resonated romanticism and purity. It was a symphony of flowy and structured dresses. The play between the two was the white texturing on fabric which was truly amazing. The delicay was shown through the fabric. It was pure magic. We could see the virtual transformation to a modern day Elsa from Frozen.

The Tribalista

'The Tribalista' is a harmonious connection between the tribal and modern world. This is one of my past works. We had a module of fashion accessories in which we were to make 2 types of bags. This was the first time I followed the proper design process- theme, inspiration board, sketches and final product.

The tribal prints and colors were major inspiration. The client is a strong woman who seeks an escape from the modern vying world to unleash her tribal instinct. It is a power play of both the world.

The Inspiration Board

The Tribal Clutch

The Tribal Envelope Bag/Clutch made for my best friends later.

The fabric was the key inspiration for the tribal theme and the shape of the bags where modern and edgy, creating 'The Tribalista' Collection. Would love to hear your views on it in the comments below.

Metal & Reuse Accessories

This is a quick post in which I am sharing accessories made in the workshop for accessory design under the tutelage of Devinder Layal. My gold handcuff bracelet DIY (here) was based on this workshop. Here are some of the accessories that I did in this session.

Twisted metal wire and pearl bracelet

Textured Pendant

Coiled metal wire earrings

Textured Pepsi can earrings

Diet coke can turned into a textured gold handcuff bracelet

Pepsi can and pearl earrings

Coiled metal wire ring

Braided wire with pearl bracelet

Working with metal wires and cans can be fun. But it should be done with precautions as both can be sharp.

It was a very creative workshop where we learned different techniques of metal jewelry. I had loads of fun making these. Let me know which of these was your favorite in the comments below!

Currently drooling over...

I am currently drooling over the two videos of the two brands Chanel and Burberry.

Both the videos showcase their current brand identity in a precise manner. They take you on a mesmerizing journey. Every aspect from the cinematography to the music is well thought of. It is not just some promotion technique but a very beautiful way to depict a brand with a story that connects with the audience.

Chanel No. 5's - The One That I Want
Supermodel Gisele Bündchen and actor Michiel Huisman stars in this film-commercial which very elegantly depicts the struggle of a modern woman between love and career. Love ultimately triumphs.

Burberry's - From London With Love
The new Burberry Festive Movie starring Romeo Beckham is a story about a couple falling in love. Romeo Beckham acting as a cupid.

They are amazing in their own way. I can't seem to pick which one is my favorite. Did you guys enjoy both the film commercials? Which one is your favorite? Let me know.

Did You Know?- Houndstooth

Everybody was hooking into Houndstooth print by fall 2013. I also got interested in this print. Got myself a travel pouch with a variation of houndstooth print. I really wanted to know its origin as a print.

Did you know its origin is said to be in 1800's in Scotland? Originally worn in Scotland by Shepherds as an outer garment of woven woolen cloth, it was also referred to as Shepherd's Checks.
Although the exact time the print was created is not know, the use of the term Houndstooth was recorded by Merriam-Webster in 1936. The print was popular in the upper class in 1930s as it reflected their class status.

It has been reappearing almost every decade ever since. A very interesting print which adds an exciting eye-movement in a garment.

Festive Companions

A Bag/clutch is undoubtedly an essential part of a look. It no longer is the accessory to be matched with the shoes but has its own niche in an ensemble. Sometimes they are the main attraction in a look. They then become key elements in one’s wardrobe.

This festive season I tried to utilize few that I had piled up in my wardrobe for long time. They were lucky buys for me and also look amazing on outfits.

1. Box Clutch/Sling
The dream of having a box clutch was fulfilled by this traditional embroidered box clutch. Got this great buy around Rs. 600  from Palika Bazaar in Delhi while on our study trip. Bargaining was done by my friend and has been the best buy in my wardrobe.

2.Pipe Work Clutch/ Sling.
Got this one from Palika Bazaar too. Another good bargain from the same friend and got this for Rs. 250/300 I think. It has a white beaded sling handle and has full pipe work even at the backside.

3.Traditional Art Print Sling
This Sling was bought by my mom from some exhibition for around Rs. 400-450. It goes really well with a monochrome outfit I had worn. With solid colors in the garment, this print stood out.

The box clutch is my favorite and I got to wear it with two of the traditional looks below

I had a really good festive week, hope you guys enjoyed it too.

Gold Rush

With recycling on mind, we had a subject called Accessory Designing this semester. We were lucky to have an amazing 2-day session with Devinder Layal, in which he taught us different techniques with copper wires and how to make accessories from tin cans.

Keeping this in mind I tried my version of accessory with the cans. I tried to make a Handcuff Bracelet from Cafe Cuba Can as it perfectly fit my hand size and was thin enough to cut with help of  a paper cutter.

Requirements-
1 Can (as per size requirements with thin metal body)
Scale
Pencil
Paper Cutter (be careful with it)
Filer (to smooth the edges if necessary)
Gold Spray Can

I took this Cafe Cuba Coffee Revolution can, which fits my hands perfectly and has a thin metal body which can be easily cut.

The first step is to cut the upper and lower end of the can and then cut from a side to form the basic shape of a handcuff bracelet. Be careful while cutting and handling these cans, because the cut edges can be pretty sharp. Mark your required design with help of pencil and scale on the silver side of the can. Make sure the cut-out areas are lesser than the metal body area so as to hold its shape.

The trickiest part is cutting out the design shapes. You need to be really careful at this stage as using a cutter can be dangerous. Patience is the key. With thin metal body, the paper cutter has to be used 5-6 times in a particular area with some force. Please be really careful while using a cutter. You can also use a filer to smooth out the edges if necessary.

The last part is the easiest and quite fun. Just spray it with a gold spray. You can get a spray can easily at any hardware store or some stationery stores.

Your Gold Handcuff Bracelet is ready to use!

I tried it out with an outfit for a meet with my bff, as seen in picture below.

You can also do a basic handcuff gold bracelet by not cutting out the design and spraying it with gold spray. It will definitely be more sturdy.

I am in love with it because it's perfect for this festive season. Hope you guys try it too.

Happy Diwali to all!!
