Hair-Dressing 1st time ever!!!

My best friend registered me for a hair-dressing competition in her college. It was the first time I was supposed to do it with someone else hair. I usually do experiments with my hair and have never before touched anyone's hair in my life-time. It was first time and that too in a competition, so it was a bit intimidating. I did the styling experiment on my other best friend's hair. Of course I couldn't win because the other participants were pro but it was fun to get to do it!! :)

I called my hairstyle- My take on the messy bun traditional way.

The small pins where created by embroidery beads and hair pins.The look is simple. I first tied a pony then took 1/4 of the upper part of the hair in the ponytail and formed a messy bun. Then I made two parts of the remaining hair. Made a simple braid of the first part and twisted it round the bun and twisted the second part and again twisted around the braid. I decorated the bun with a bow pin that I already had with me and dressed the braid with the pins and beads. The same pins were used to decorate the front side of the head where I just twisted the hair and pinned it .

Vacation Project!!

Hi lovelies! Today I am posting my long time pending post!! I was and still am supper excited about this project of mine which I did in my Diwali vacations. I made a skirt for myself from scratch literally because I didn't have any drawing to refer to and made the first cut by trial and error on paper. I had learned this amazing honeycomb smocking on Burdastyle, its amazing site for trying out new patterns!! Anyway I wanted to try that on a skirt!! Here it goes!! My Honeycomb Smocking Skirt!!

 It is just below knee length with a zip in one side. It looks stretchable but since I didn't add elastic to it, it does not stretch.

  

I am still to find a perfect top for this. I was thinking of sleeveless white and black horizontal strips top. What do you think will go on this? Do let me know!!

I know its been a while and all my resolution of writing religiously has gone in drain with my study schedule. A solution to that I came up with Did you know series where I can write quick facts and finds of my own about fashion and share it with you all!!

Today's find is the birth of our modern heels!! Did you know that earlier heels were not so popular among women. Though there were many regions in history where heels were popular but modern day heel had its own beginning . King Louis XIV wore platform heels and it was compulsory to wear heels in his court. Red colour was specially symbolic for the aristocrats. Below is the ancestor of our beloved heels!!

Organised Shopping

I recently had my shopping spree and experienced a real relief when I did my own Organised Shopping as I call it. Shopping is always fun but then it may have an after effect like not liking the colour, don't know how to wear the product, don't know with what to wear the product,etc when you do random shopping. Random shopping is not always bad, it creates wonderful new outfits too.Its also a stress-buster for me.But sometimes I prefer organised shopping. 11 steps for special today (11.11.11) that I took for my so called Organised shopping are:-

1. Making 'Must Shop' list- These are the items that you really need i.e these products are the actually reasons for deciding to go out shopping in first place. Many times it happens that you tend to forget them by the end of your shopping spree and after coming home its the usual dialogue"Oh! I forget to bring ____, the very reason I even stepped out to shop." Trick is to target the shops that sells the products in your Must Shop list FIRST and then after buying them move on to your usual shopping.

2. The 'Must Have' list- This list consist of the products that are in trend or which are not present in your closet or which needs a replacement.

3. Imagine an outfit on the spot- This trick always help me! It also helps to avoid keeping the product unused and untouched in your closet. But friends, rules are meant to be broken sometimes. If you extremely love a product even though you can't figure out an outfit I say 'Go for it!'...outfit will come eventually ;)

4. Inspiration- If you are looking to create an outfit from inspiration then you might not need the exact same things present in the outfit, a little bit here and there can be done but the overall outfit should give an idea that its taken from the inspiration.

5. Need not be of famous brands always(except make-up and skincare products)- I believe this because I myself have experienced that sometimes not so famous brand products not only look good but they even last longer. Don't forget the less cost that we have to pay too. But you find the quality in famous brands and I love this fact about them.

6.Price and Budget - Keep in mind your budget for the shopping spree and allocate it efficiently. First prioritise to  the Must Shop list and the the Must Have list . Also, buy product worth its price. Paying humongous amount for a product which we can get in lesser price may lead you to spending more then it deserves. If you like a product but can't afford it then don't worry there is always a cheaper option available in the market if you look around.

7. Bargain - Its a quality which every shopaholic in my belief. If you don't then get a friend or your mom to do the bargaining magic. I always take along my mom for this, she bargains very efficiently. Don't shy away from bargaining as it is a win-win situation for both the parties.

8. Make sure of the quality and colour- While shopping make sure of the quality by testing it or trying it out. Colour becomes an issue when you shop during evening or night, like if you want purple you end up with bright pink. Shopkeepers sometimes use different lights for this trick. Take you product where there is normal tube to check the colour.

9.Exchange - If you are not sure of the size,colour,pattern or any other factor of the product, make sure the shop offers an exchange offer. Some shops don't accept the product again.

10. Never hesitate to try New - Try shopping new things and new trends every time. This not only keeps you updated but also reduces the monotonous closet situation.

11. Enjoy your product and overall fun of shopping - Come home and have a fashion show of your own. Ask opinions of your family members and enjoy the feeling of shopping. :)

Well October has been a very busy month till now and will remain so I think. But I so wanted to write a post and I just couldn't...but here I am writing a post at 1am at night (so much for the enthusiasm). This post is you can say lookbook kind of thing-a lookbook post. Colour Theory

I can't believe it is my first post of October. I just completed Colour Analysis in my class and wanted to share with you guys. It is important to do the Analysis because colours are basic part of our lives and if you know them properly it helps you in your overall fashion sense in different kinds of look,as you know what goes with what so that it looks good for the eyes.

Colour Wheel :-

We start with our basic Colour wheel and to know the Primary colours, Secondary Colours and Tertiary Colours.

Primary Colour- P

Secondary Colour- S

Tertiary Colour- T

Colour Basics :-

Hue - Hue is basic colour as in the PURE colour. Colour in its actual form. Eg. Red , Blue, Green, etc.

Tints - Tint is when you add white to the Hue to get lighter effect.

Shades - Shade is when you add black to the Hue to get darker colour.

Colour Schemes :-

For a Monochromatic look

1. Monochromatic Scheme - It is using a hue and its tints and shades together. Eg. As above mix the hue,tints and shades of red in a look. I had once tried a monochromatic look in blue- Here . It has a very soothing effect and balanced look but lacks contrast.

2. Analogous Scheme - Here we take a colour as a dominant colour and take the two adjacent colours to enrich the dominant colour.Eg. Below we take Orange as Dominant colour and Red-Orange and Yellow-Orange to enrich it. It is richer then monochromatic but also lacks contrast.

For a Colour Blocked look

3. Complementary Scheme - It is use of two colour from a colour wheel. Taking a dominant colour and exactly opposite colour to it in the colour wheel to bring out the highlights. This scheme has strong eye-catching contrast but harder to balance.Eg. The classic Red and Green.

4.Split Complementary Scheme - This is a a further transformation of Complementary. We take a a Dominant colour and we take adjacent colours to its colour wheel's opposite colour. Eg. If we again take Red as dominant colour then we take Yellow - Green and Blue - Green which are adjacent to Green.

5.Triadic Scheme - Just form a Equilateral triangle on the colour wheel to get this colour scheme. It is not as contrasting as complementary and is difficult to manage.Eg. Below- Red, Blue and Yellow.

6. Tetradic Scheme - Also known as Double Complementary Scheme. These are Two pairs of Complementary colours put together so we have 4 colours. It offers most variety in terms of colour but it is hardest to balance. Eg. Below- Red and Green & Yellow-Orange and Blue-Purple.

We need to also understand that each colour represents different emotions,moods, environment and even meaning of the colour differs in different regions. Eg: Red means anger,love,passion,youth,romance,harvest,vigour,etc.

Also like White is used in marriage celebration in some cultures but here in India its mainly used as mourning colour.

Message From A Cupid....

Posting my 1st poem-Message Form a Cupid....(so the title) that I had written 3years ago was a bit nostalgic for me but then cupidspeaks.com gives you this amazing platform to write all you want!! Both my 1st poem and my last post on Pamper yourself with a Pedicure are now posted there and I am keen to post more!! For a writing enthusiast  like me it is an amazing place. I am yet to explore the whole site but it has been amazing so far...

For my last week I can say it was good because the sun was shinning and still is and Indian Bridal Week is on at Aamby Valley!!! :)

Now for today's outfit I can simply say that it is Black-local and simple. Local because all the things I have worn are from local boutiques except the necklace which is from Dazzling Bling and simple because I think the look is simple....It was the 1st time that my BFF was my photographer..and the pics are real good!! Edited cause the date came  in between!! So not a photo heavy post!!

Pamper yourself with a PEDICURE !!

Pedicure is a really good medium of relaxing your lovely feet which take all the burden from your weight to your heels. Yesterday I was soo tired that the thought of going to the parlour after such a hectic schedule just for a pedicure felt like a pain. So my mum adviced me to do it at home. I have tried it at home earlier too. This note is inspired from the special request made by Madhumita yesterday after reading lazygul's status.

Giving yourself a pedicure at home is easy and nothing to be afraid. It involves just 8 simple steps:-

1. Remove your pervoius nail polish using a polish remover and cotton balls/pads. 

2. Cut and file your nails and make sure yor remove the dirt which gets settled at the ends of the toes. If the dirt is stuck with the skin then don't worry it will get removed in our next step.

3. In a bucket (make sure you use something which is bad conducter of heat) pour warm water till the level in which your feet would be fully submerged in the water. Add in it bath salt or aromatherapy oils. I usually prefer liquid body soaps with the ingrediants. Pour some milk may be quarter cup in it as it helps in loosening the dead skin cells.

        Soak your feet till the time you feel comfortable and relaxed. Don't overheat the water as it may lead to burning of the snesitive skin areas.

4.Use foot scrubs or pumice stone to remove the dead skin. Scrub your heel area and around toes. You can also take extra soft tooth brush to remove the dirt around toe area. Don't srub to hard as it will peel off the good skin and turn your feet red.

5. Remove the cuticles with the help of cuticle remover.

6. Remove your feet and gently dry them with soft cloth.

7. Most important is to moisturze the feet. Apply any mosturising cream in circular motion to your feet giving it a relaxing massage.

8. Now apply the coat of your favourite nail polish and let it dry. You can also do nail art in various forms like different designs, newspaper prints, marble effect, mirror effect,etc

Aren't these steps easy!! So go pamper yourself with an amazing pedicure!!

That Girl With No Shoe Boots!!

Well this post is an inspirational post. With the Stereo Suede Stud Shoe Boots  now available at Topshop  being the inspiration. I just simply couldn't keep my eyes off the screen, watching the details with zoom tool of  Topshop, taking in the colour(which is my favourite) and analysing the design. A mental check-list of styling a look for these shoes began....and that is how the today's Girlish Rock-Star Look was created( With Rihana's  Rock-Star playing in my mind). Since this shoot was done at the end of the day I look a bit tired but the sadness is totally due to not having the shoes in my wardrobe!!

Six Degrees of Separation is a very old idiom which was introduced by Frigyes Karinthy and I have started believing it lately. It became prominent in my mind because of a person who is no where related to me (still) but yet we are connected by that weird different connections of people around us. She was in my classes in school but in a different batch, before that she was one of my school friend's friend, she is also my dad's friends daughter and I was in her college and we had a common friend too. But never in my life had we talked to each other but we know each others presence ( at least I know she exists in this world ). How weird is this connection?....is what I was thinking about day before yesterday.....& how we all are actually connected six degrees apart.....

My today's outfit is some what the same...they are from two different outfits but I have tried to make a new connection in them...We have Ganesh Chaturthi ( its an Indian festival, for more information see here ) going on here where we bring idols of Lord Ganesha  at our homes and worship them. Our family has the same tradition so for the 6 days I am all traditional. It was Ramzan Eid too. Some twist to traditional is what I look out for. I tried on the look below....

My BB....

Now for BB I don't mean Blackberry, I don't even have one!! BB here means Bronze and Blue!!! I did monochromatic look today and blue is a really good colour for a monochromatic look (at least for me) !! Some basics that you need to get right in such look is :-
1. Use different shades of a particular colour and stick to a colour palette.
2. For accessorising this look pick out a colour or two which is contrast to your outfit colour and play with them in different accessories.
3. Make sure the colours you pick for accessorising don't over-power your actual outfit colour or it would just be any other outfit rather being a monochromatic one.
4. It is not always necessary to accessorise such look as the monochromatic theme speaks for itself.
